Travelling to Macau from Hong Kong: Transportations and Latest Travel Measures

Arrivals to Macau from Hong Kong no longer need to take any RAT / PCR tests before and undergo quarantine after landing. If you plan to visit there shortly, here are some notes of travelling to Macau from Hong Kong that you should have read before you go.

Macau’s Latest Epidemic Situation

The total number of people vaccinated in Macau reaches 98.7% of the population. Most social distancing measures are no longer existed, but there are still some guidelines to follow.

Macau’s Latest anti-Epidemic Measures

  • Everyone should wear a mask in public places.
  • Standing anti-epidemic supplies and over-the-counter drugs.
  • People who are asymptomatic generally do not need to be tested.
  • The Macau Health Code and temperature screening will not be needed.

Macau’s Travel Measures for Hong Kong Residents

Travellers arriving from mainland China, Hong Kong, or Taiwan do not need to present any proof of COVID-19 testing since 8th January, 2023. The quarantine period and prior approval from the Macau health authorities will not be required for all nationals. However, travellers arriving from regions outside China, Hong Kong, or Taiwan would need a negative proof of a RAT or PCR test for COVID-19 within 48 hours.

Measures for travellers

  • All nationals do not need to obtain prior approval from the Macau health authorities.
  • No obligatory health declaration is needed.
  • No quarantine period is needed.
  • No presentation of any proof of COVID-19 testing is needed for China, Hong Kong, or Taiwan residents.
  • A negative proof of a RAT or PCR test within 48 hours for other foreign travellers.

Arrival from Macau to Hong Kong

Travellers who are aged three or older on the date of arrival would no longer need a negative RAT proof or a negative PCR test result started on 6th February. If persons from Macau have stayed in the mainland on the day of, or in the 7 days prior to, arrival at Hong Kong, will be required to present a negative PCR test done within 48 hours prior to entering Hong Kong.

Hong Kong-Macau Transportation

Hong Kong residents can enter Macau in several ways, including by ferry, bus, or driving cars through the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) under the HZMB Macau Port Park-and-Ride Scheme.

Ferry to Macau from Hong Kong

Ferry is the most common transport to travel to Macau from Hong Kong. There are two main ferry services for Hong Kong residents entering Macau: TurboJET and Cotai Water Jet.

Travellers may get aboard from Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan and from Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal / Taipa Ferry Terminal in Macau. Other terminal services are yet to resume during the initial phases.

Tickets can be bought either through their websites or on the 3/F Shun Tak Centre, or by using their apps. It would take around 55 to 65 minutes for the whole ride.

Bus to Macau from Hong Kong

Travellers might travel to Macau from Hong Kong by taking the HZM Bus or Hong Kong-Macau Express through the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. By taking the Hong Kong-Macau Express, passengers may choose some casinos / hotels as destinations or starting points. They include:
