Hong Kong Art Basel 2024 will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from March 28 to 30, with preview days on March 26 and 27.
Where will Hong Kong Art Basel 2024 be held?
Most of our fantastic art fairs will unfold at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, but rest assured, the creativity isn’t limited to one venue!
For instance, the supremely talented Sydney-based Aboriginal artist Daniel Boyd will be delighting us with his dot artistry at Pacific Place. Plus, you’ll be treated to a black-and-white film on Hong Kong architecture, a masterpiece shot by Yang Fudong, that’ll be screened on the façade of M+.
So keep those peepers wide open for more unexpected artistic surprises this month!
How do I get to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre?
Visitors can reach HKCEC via MTR to Wan Chai Station, Blue Island Line, then walk from Exit A1, or you may take the MTR to Exhibition Centre station in the East Rail line.
Alternatively, if you prefer to enjoy the stunning Victoria Harbour, you may take the Star Ferry from Tsim Sha Tsui Pier, next to the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, to get to Wan Chai.

Kabinett
The Kabinett sector will host 33 galleries, a record number, primarily focusing on solo projects from the Asia-Pacific region. Here are some key features:
- A Thousand Plateaus Art Space (Chengdu) will display an installation by Chinese artist Bi Rongrong. The work explores the relationship between various city patterns and cultures, the internet, personal memories, and the artist’s environment.
- Johyun Gallery (Busan) will exhibit a recent series of paintings by the late South Korean artist Park Seo-Bo, highlighting his distinctive physicality, rhythm, and technique.
- Herald St. (London) will showcase acrylic and ink paintings by Hong Kong-born, London-based artist Cary Kwok, providing insight into Kwok’s cinematic examination of queer interaction, domesticity, and art history.
- Yavuz Gallery (Singapore, Sydney) will introduce new works by prominent Thai artist Pinaree Sanpitak, which reflect her ongoing investigation of organic structures and materials, as well as the dichotomy between the sacred and the secular.
- Jessica Silverman (San Francisco) will present a series of paintings by American artist Loie Hollowell that delve into sexuality, reproduction, and spirituality.
- Annely Juda Fine Art (London) will exhibit works on paper by Russian avant-garde artist Kasimir Malevich from 1913 to the early 1920s, along with works by Alexander Rodchenko, Alexandra Exter, Naum Gabo, Elena Semenova, and Gustav Klucis, all of whom have made significant contributions to non-objective art.

Encounters
The Encounters section, themed ‘I am a part of all that I have met’ this year, features 16 large-scale projects, 11 made specifically for Art Basel – a record high since 2013. Highlights that you couldn’t miss include
- South Korean artist Haegue Yang’s “Contingent Spheres” (2020, 2022) presents anthropomorphic ratan sculptures that merge Philippine Binakol motifs and 60s Op art.
- Hong Kong artist Mak2’s “Copy of Copy of Copy of Copy” (2024) is a playful installation exploring duplication, evolution, and simulation.
- Australian artist Naminapu Maymuru-White’s “Larrakitj Forest” (2024) references the Yolŋu community’s funerary rites and traditions.
- Indian artist Jitish Kallat’s “Wind Study (Hilbert Curve)” (2022-2023) features large-scale drawings created with fire, wind, smoke, and ink, referencing mathematician David Hilbert.
- Singaporean artist Ming Wong’s “Friendship First” (2024) uses table tennis archival footage to explore US-China relations.
Conversation at Art Basel Hong Kong
Art Basel isn’t just about art exhibits. They will be hosting 11 awesome panels and dialogues with key players from the global arts and culture community. You’ll be hearing from Japanese art legends Shinro Ohtake and Takashi Murakami, Pi Li, who heads the art at Tai Kwun, the inspiring M+ museum director Suhanya Raffel, the visionary director of the National Gallery Singapore, Eugene Tan, artist and meme maestro Cem A, and many more fantastic speakers.
This could be the chance to gain insights from the influencers who are shaping the art world, learn about building impactful art collections, understand the process of decolonizing cultural institutions, and join the debate on whether artists or artworks hold greater importance.

Interested in moving pictures?
The film programme, curated by multi-media artist and film producer Li Zhenhua, will showcase ten screenings. It will collaborate with cultural video channel Nowness Asia and Videotage, a leading non-profit organisation in the region for video art. The programme will run from March 27-30 at the HKCEC.
Who Are the Hong Kong Artists at Art Basel?
We’re also super excited about the local talent on display! Our very own Mak2 has put together an intriguing large installation called Copy of Copy of Copy of Copy, made up of two interconnected fair booths. His thought-provoking exploration of duplication and simulation feels especially relevant in our current age of generative AI.
Also, don’t miss out on the work of Cary Kwok! Born in Hong Kong and now based in London, Cary will be showcasing his acrylic and ink paintings. They brilliantly address themes of queer interaction, domesticity, and art history. But remember, these are just a couple of the local artists we’re spotlighting; there are plenty more Hong Kong talents for you to discover in person.

The final admission time is 30 minutes prior to closing
Avoid arriving too late for the exhibition. Otherwise, you won’t be able to get in.
Please note that no bags or suitcases of any size are allowed inside the halls
You can store your bags at our coat checks located at Level 1 Concourse near Entrance 1E, Level 3 Concourse near Entrance 3C, and at the Expo Drive Entrance. But remember, our storage spaces are limited, and they’re available on a first come, first served basis. So, the early bird gets the worm!
Only a small bag is allowed
One bag per person is allowed, subject to inspection if taken into halls. No backpacks, crossbody bags, suitcases, or trolleys. Items larger than 23 x 15 x 18 cm must be left at the coat check. Non-compliant items will be prohibited.
Prohibited items in halls
Backpacks, large bags, suitcases; large umbrellas; weapons, sharp items; wheeled devices (e.g., Segways, skates, bikes); Drones are prohibited in halls.
Camera policy
Cameras up to 16 cm x 12 cm x 8 cm with one lens (maximum 80mm focal length) are allowed. Medium- or large-format cameras, super-zoom or telephoto lenses, flashes, extendable devices (e.g., monopods, tripods, selfie sticks), drones, and video recording are not permitted. Non-compliant devices are prohibited.
Visitor photography policy
Personal photography is allowed if it doesn’t disrupt visitors or endanger artworks. Press and promotional photography occur on site. Attendance implies consent for your image to be used for non-commercial purposes, including media reports.
Food and Beverage
Food and beverages are prohibited in the show halls.
